Continuing on our whiskey train đ (choo choo!), letâs talk about whiskey cocktails. Maybe youâre not ready to dive in head first into drinking whiskey all by itself. It takes awhile to train your palate to enjoy this magical elixir! Letâs start by dipping our toes into the wonderful waves of whiskey with a classic cocktail: the whiskey sour.
The whiskey sour is a classic for a reason, my friends.
- Itâs balanced - meaning that all of the flavors (sweet, sour, and strong) meld harmoniously together to make your tastebuds dance!
- Itâs silky - the texture of this cocktail feels really smooth in your mouth.
A word of warning! â ď¸ Weâre not talking about the whiskey sours served in dive bars of our youth. You know, the kind with a shot from the soda gun and nuclear â˘ď¸ cherries in it. This a simple, clean, beautiful whiskey sour that will reaffirm that there is true beauty in simplicity.
Now letâs get to that recipe! The classic whiskey sour goes like this:
2 oz. whiskey (I like bourbon)
3/4 oz. freshly squeezed lemon juice
3/4 oz. simple syrup*
1 egg white
(If a raw egg weirds you out, you can omit it. But itâs pretty darn safe to drink since eggs are pasteurized, and itâs DELICIOUS!)
Add all ingredients into your shaker and shake first without ice. Then, add in a few ice cubes and shake again, 10-15 seconds. Strain into your glass. Sip & enjoy!
*Need a refresher on how to make simple syrup? Head back to our very first post to see how itâs done. Instead of 2:1 sugar to water, just use a ratio of 1:1.
